DUPGO – Down Under the Park Grid Overhang

What if the grid was the park—and the rest was carved away or it was raised on top?
From Hippodamus’ Miletus to Cerdà’s Barcelona, the grid served the infill. Buildings rose, shadows cast. Egalitarian in theory, zoned in practice—just look at Manhattan.
Parks? Rare interruptions—Broadway’s diagonal, the void of Central Park.
Everything else? Solid. Filled. Built up. Super talls claiming the last vacant feet.

But flip it.
Let the grid be the park.
Let nothing cast shadow on it—let it overlook.
The terrain is the roof. A continuous urban canopy.

Beneath it: space is subtracted.
Not built up, but carved down.
Heizer’s voids. Memorial pools. Subtraction as structure.

The city doesn’t sit on the grid.
It hangs from it.
It wraps within it.
It descends below it.
